SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Selwyn County Council met at 10,30 a.m. yesterday. Present—Messrs H. W. Peryman (chairman), R. Westenra, J. G. Murray, J. [ Gough, J. Rennie and W. Dunlop. The Tai Tapu Road Board forwarded a plan and estimate of a proponed bridge over the Halewell at Tai Tapu, and expressing its willingness to pay half the cost. The letter was referred to the Lincoln Road Board, which was interested.
The Recounts of £51 11m 3d, repairs to the Ellesinere bridge; £14 6s, maintenance of Ooalgate bridge; and £1 Hβ 6d, the Couacil'a share of the inquiry re Halewell bridges, were approved. The Kllesmere Road Board wrote, asking the Council to call a meeting of ratepayers to consider the question of raising a loan for a new bridge. It was decided to reply that it was the duty of the Road Board to call such a meeting, the Council having no power. Mr Popple, clerk to the Malvern Road Board, was appointed dog registrar for that district.
A letter from Messrs Garrick and Cowlishaw calling attention to the state of the Little Rikaia river was referred to the local Road Board.
Tenders were received for the repairs to the Ellesmece embankment, and that of W. Neill, junr., was accepted for £9 10s. Itwa3 decided that a notice ha ineerted in the papets that all owners of traction engines, who had not yet done so, must takeout licensee within fourteen days, or the Council would take steps to compel them.
The Council dealt with some plantation and water-race matters, and Afterwards adjourned. '
