DISQUALIFICATION CONFIRMED.
A special meeting of the Council of the Swimming Association confirmed the disqualification of A. Cavill for interfering with Gormley during the mile championship on January 16th. INTERCOLONIAL YACHTING.
Negotiations are proceeding relative to intercolonial yachting races. It is at first intended to confine the contest to boats not exceeding one rating. Mr S. Hordern, Commodore of the Prince Alfred Yacht Club, offers £50 towards a trophy, on condition that the Victorian and South Australian Clubs also contribute a like sum. It is suggosted that Queensland, New Zealand, and Tasmania shall be invited to co-operate. THE ALLEGED BRIBERY CASES. Melbourne, February 11.
At the Lorimer enquiry Detective O'Donnell gave evidence that he arrested Mrs Rappiport on a charge of stealing. Mr Rappiport asked him to withdraw the charge, although his wife made an admission of the offence. Mr Rappiport declared Detective O'Donnell's statement to be a deliberate falsehood. COLONISING SCHEME. Perth, February 11. A representative of a colonising scheme forming in London with a capital of a quarter of a million, has arrived here. It is intended to place 300 Italian families, skilled in agriculture and sericulture, on an estate near Norfcham; also to aotively exploit the country for the production of castor oil.
