THE CHRISTCHURCH ELECTION.
An advertisement in another column announces that an election will be held for the return of a qualified person to serve as a member for the City of Christchurch electoral district, that nominations will be received not later than February sth, and that the poll, if necessary, will be taken on February ,13-b. The advertisement further contains a list of the polling places. Mr Charles Lewis will address the electors at the Mission Hall, Sydenham, tonight, and at the East Christchuroh Side School, South belt, to-morrow evening, on both occasions at eight o'clock. Mr T. E. Taylor will deliver addresses at the St. Albans Side School, Leinster road, to-night, and at Protestant Hall, McFad* den's road, St. Albans, to-morrow evening, at eight. A meeting of Mr T. E. Taylor's executive Committee and canvassers will be held in his office Cashel street (opposite Press office) this evening at 8 p.m. Mr Chas. Lewis's St. Albans Committee meet this evening at the Committee rooms, next Knights town Library. The ordinary meeting of the Trades and Labour Council was held on Saturday, the President, Mr Billoliff, in the chair. Business of a private nature occupied the greater part of the meeting. An impression having got abroad that the Trades and Labour Council had selected & candidate for the by-election the Council desired to state that it has not taken any action in the selection of a candidate for the by-election. A meeting of Mr Lewis' General Committee and of the Executive Committee will be held at the rooms this evening at eight o'clock, when every member is requested to be present. Mr R. M. Taylor will speak at the Waltham school to-night, to-morrow at the For-ster.* Hall, Rioamond, and on Wednesdayat the Knight-town Library.
