OWNERSHIP OF BROOKLET.

(PKSS3 ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 25. The Secretary of the Weliiugton Racing Club has received notice to retain the prize money won by Brooklet in the Wellington Cup, pending the result of the action which has been commenced by Mr T. Qainlivan against Mr H. Douglas to decide the ownership of the mare. The racehorses Lady Zetland, Saracen, Ostnan, Liberator, Salvo, Bimetallism Loveshot, Clarence, Silver Spec and Skirmisher arrived from the North by the steamer Penguin on Saturday.

Lewis witt daring the week address the electors of the City of Cnnsccfaurch and euburbs at the following places : —Tuesday, the Oddfellows' Hall, Addington • Wednesday, at the Merivale Schoolroom, Papanui road ; Thursday, at the Foresters' Hall, Richmond ; Friday, at St. Luke's Schoolroom, Manchester street. Each meeting will begin at eight o'clock. The ordinary meeting of Mr Gharlee Lewis's General Committee will be held at 8 o'clock to-night in the Committee rooms. Upwards of 200 electors raei iv the Oddfellows' Chambers, Lichfield street, on Saturday evening, in connection with the represeDtatiou of the Liberal interest at the forthcoming election. Mr Kissel was voted to tne chair. A motion was moved and seconded, to the effect that of the three candidates in the field ouly Mr £t. M. Taylor could possibly be accepted as a representative of the Addresses were then delivered by Mr G. W. Russell, M.H.R., and Mr W. VV. Collins, M.H.R., and the motion was carried uuauimously. All who were present having agreed to become members of the General Committee, Mr R. M. Taylor entered the room, and having been informed as to what had been done, briefly expressed his thanks. It was unanimously decided to invite the Colonial Treasurer to deliver an address in Chriatchurch at an early date, and measures were adopted with regard to the formation of suburban committees. Mr H. B. Kirk has since expressed his reariiuees to act as Chairman, of the Central Committee.
