SENIOR CUP MATCHES. LANCASTER PARK v UNITSD. The contest between these teams was continued at Ilagley Park oa Saturday, when a strong nor'-wester, which was experienced during the afternoon, made matters very di**gioeo.blo for players and spectators alike. Oα the opsaing day tho Park had lost seven wjekete tor 2-U North being 11, not out, and 3jV*ke 0, not out. Oa resuming oaly 4 wero added to the total before >iorth was dismissed. Cederwail and Fowke theo made a good stand, and 49 wfre added before tiie former was caught. Stringer was last on tho list, and tie quickly knocked up 14, aud the innings cams to a close for 320, Fawfce carrying out iiis bxl tor a well played 37. Wood and Sima were t'ue moss successful of the bowlers tried, aud tha was fair. After the usu:»i interval the Unitad sent in K. 1). Harman and Modlow, Wildiug and Cedsrwall starting the bowling. Runs came freely from the start, an J, despite changes in tho attack, the score was taken to 61 before Hannaa was bowled by North for a well-played 35. Sims, tho ex-High S-'hcol boy, was uexo on the list, and his play was watciied with interest. After scoring 7 nut of 32, however, he was bowled by Wilding. W. J. Cotterill filled the vacancy, bu f * with 103 on the board JMjdlow was caught and bowled, baviDg contributed 55 in far better form than he has previously exuibited in Chriatchurcb. Neither Wigley uor Mat bias gave much trouble, but Clark assisted Cotterill to carry the total to 15S before the latter was dismissed. Clark and Helmore then played out time. Wilding was the most successful of the five bowlers tried, though proving rather expensive, and tho fielding was below the form U3uaily shown by ike Laucistriaus. This match was advanced another stage at Lancaster Park on Saturday. The weather was about as unpleasant as ib could be, a fierce nor'-wester blowing across the ground ail the afternoon, and keeping the Umpires busy in replacing the bails. On the previous Saturday the suburbans had made 57 and the Midland had got 91 for five wickets. Oα resuming, the two not outs, Dellaua with 45 and 8. Forsyth, made the biggest stand of the innings, taking the score to 173 before D?Mans left, after playing a sterling innings for 86. Forayth left 9 tuns later, having surprised all by the soundness of lm defence and the quickness of his strokes, particularly his late cute. Two more wickets soon fell, bub MsFarlane and D. Reese made another cood stand for the last wicket, putting on 62. Both men batted in five form, and it is a 'sure indication of the batting strength of tho M.C.C. when such men have to go in last. The Sydenham in their second innings made a bad start, losing two wickets for 8. Wright and Lawrence then played out time, taking the score to 31. The fielding of both teams was very good all round. During the day Mrs Halley and other ladies dispensed afternoon tea, which was vory acceptable to the players in such stifling weather. The following are the scores,: — SYDENHAM.
