REVENUE RETURNS.
(press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, January 24. The ordinary revenue of the colony for the quarter ended the 31sb of December, 1895, was as follows (shillings and pence omittsd):—Customs £412,308, stamps £152,734, postal and telegraph cash receipts £17,224, land and income tax £263,616, property tax and beer duty £16,051, railways £282,705, registration and other fees £5609, marine £5471, miscellaneous £13,162, territorial revenue, cash land sales £14,876, deferred payment land sales £8798, pastoral runs (rents and miscellaneous) £20,949; total, £1,216,511. The ordinary and territorial revenue for the corresponding quarter of 1894 was £905,773. The postal revenue for the quarter ending 31st December, 1895, was £51,627, as compared with £49,463 for the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Tho telegraph revenue was £36,702, as agaiust £32,816. In the Savings Bank business for the same period the excess of deposits over withdrawals was £51,739, as against £68,973 for the same quarter of last year. There was a fairly large increase in the value of postal notea paid and sold. The gold revenue returns for the colony for the year 1895 showed 293,4910z of the value of £1,162,464 as compared with 221,6150z0f the value of £887,839 for the year 1394. The quantity yielded by the Auckland goldfields during the year had more than doubled, while the West Coast and Ot ago also showed small increases.
