THE NEW WOMAN.

Some sensation was caused at a town in Victoria recently by the appearance of a party of two ladies and two gentlemen with two attendants and packborses. The cause of the " sedation" was that the ladies wore dressed in rational costume— geuerally epofcen off by the onlookers as ** b}oomers" and each rode her horae *' straddle legged." The party caused as much sensation as a circus procession, and the remarks to be heard were more pointed than polite. It was understood that they belonged to a tourist party in connection with the Melbourne University, who had been on an exploration picnio to the Baw Baw ranges.
