HOW LONDON GROWS. By the aid of the builder and the County Council the growth of London is advancing at a very rapid pace. Sir Edward Bradford, the Chief Commissioner of the Police, assures us in hia yearly report that last year as many as 11,874 new houses were built, and nearly thirty-four miles of new streets constructed. To a certain extent the new houses take tho place of old buildings that have been pulled down, but this process can only aocount for a comparatively small number, and tho great majority can actually bo described, says the City Press, as new houses. These figures certainly do not boar out tho contention that has been advanced more than onco of lato, that '• the village " has now almost ceased to inciease, and that in the future a decline may be expected.
