"AN OUT AND OUT RADICAL"
h TO THB KDITOR OF THS PKKSS. c Sir, —According to your report of Mr T. I E. Taylor's meeting last night the Rssv. F. ii W. Isitt has publicly proclaimed himself p •'An out-and-out Radical." It is getting in d my opinion to be a scandal to Christianity t these parsons on tbe stump taking definite 4 lides in the political struggles of the day, a and airing their crude ideas on every subject un'er the sun. The churches and chapels are it seems to be for the future known as Radical chapels, Liberal churches, Collectivist meeting-houses, &o. Seatholders and subscribers who do not go in for the latest fads aud crazes are by their - contributions feeing tho adversary* counsel, . or to put it more plainly, '* cutting their v own throats." Persons with two ideas in , their heads will soon find out the folly of this proceeding. * P Unable to attract audiences by legitimate means many of tho clergy are garnishing £ their discourses with Socialistic theories, p They will soon learn to regret this, for a true Socialist will no more tolerate reproof ? and correction from a ptiest than a prince. Some of the Churches think: We must get hold of the masses ft any price, even at "L the sost of some of the Commandments. " Radicalism is Socialism in its minority. ai When it comes of age (if it does not die . beforo that event) the clergy will be shunted c as antiquated fossils, and the only revela* " tion that will be accepted will be the P opening of the ballot-boxes. i The Bible nowhero condemns the moderate Use of strong Heinle. Both Old and New
Testaments are saturated with the ideas of personal property and individual liberty and responsibility. The rev. gentleman may shout himself •' black in the face " (to use hia own words) before he can upset this s statement—Yours, 4c., f A Hates of Cant.
