Wednesday evening the bachelors of Timaru held an "At Home " in St Mary's Schoolroom, which was prettily decorated and arranged as a drawing room. The first part consisted of instrumental and vocal music. We were given a great treat in listening to Mr Hermann Morris's piano solo. He also accompanied several of the singers. Mr Ellis played the 'cello. Mr Geo. Morris contributed a violin solo. Among the vocalists were Mrs Smithson, Misses Gardner, Leech, and Hassell, Dr. Reid, Messrs Jefferson and Ernie Jone3. The room was then cleared for dancing. The success of the evening was due to the energies of the secretary, Mr Jefferson, and his committee. There were so many pretty dresses worn it would be difficult to describe them all. Among those present were Mesdames Luxmoore, Buchanan, White, Knubley, Turner, Bennett, Le Cren, Wood, English, Rhodes, Misses Gardner, Rolleston, Julius (2), McLaren, Reynolds, Priest, Kerr, Mcc (3), Hassell, Elworthy, Moore, Raymond and White, Messrs McLaren, Tripp, Gray, Elworthy, Le Cren, Turner, White, Wood, Perry, Sharland, Hassell, Buchanan, Drs. On Friday evening Mrs Stubbs gave a large euchre party. Mrs Reid and Mrs Arthur Le Cren were the successful competitors, I noticed among the guests Mesdames Reid, Stewart, Stedman, Turner and Bennett, Misses Garrick, Gordon, Hassell, Ban-field and several others.

The same evening I hear Mrs Smith gave a very enjoyable dance to the young folk at hen residence on the Wai-iti road.

"' The many friends of Mr and Mrs Stedman, Bank of N.S.W., will be sorry to learn that they have been moved to Wanganui, and leave shortly. Mr Tennent, from Dunedin, takes charge, of this branch. ' 4 Mat.
