THE CHRISTCHURCH SEAT.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—lf auy further proof of tho shallowness of the Premier >nd hie party were required, that proof has been fully supplied the last few days. It ie an open eecrec that several gentlemen have been approached by the Government to oonteec.tho ObrUtoharph seat, but that none would acoedo to theroqueat of those to whom the duty of securing a candidate was allotted. Now it seems that Mr J. L. Soott has oonsented to run in the Government interests. To mc it eeema great discourteey for Messrs Seddon and Co. to pass over the claims of two or three prominent members of the various Political Associations whioh have unflinchingly supported every measure brought forward by those now in power. I cousiJer that a great injustioe has been done to the Liberal Associations, aud think that a true labour candidate, with as much chance of success as has Mr Scott, might have been eaaiiy obtained. However, the Piemier seems to have made good use of hie flying visit last week inasmuch as he has chosen the GDverntnent . candidate. For all that I resent any such interference, and decline to vote for anyone unless good grounds are adduced for so doing. Iα the present instanae I contend that Mr Soott ia nob the most suitable man. He comes more under the category of being a capitalist (which, by the way, 1 had always understood was a most repugnant individual to Messrs Seddon, Beeves and Co.) than a Labour candidate. Yours, &c, Cirr Elector.
