SPRINGS ROAD BOARD.
The regular meeting of this Board »_ held on December 31st. Present—-Mr L.L Wolfe (Chairmao) and all tho member Correspondence was read from Mr J_ m Corbett, re protecting land at Elleamert* refusing tho Board's offar of ono-half th' cost, and asserting that the Board shonM cither protect, his land or remove a cerUl embankment. The Board adhered to ir former decision. From tho Selwyn Count Council, with refbrence to rebuilding iJ Selwyu bridge at Ellesmere, enclosing! copy of tho County Solicitor's opiuion _« the matter, pointing out than m \ joining Road Boards may rebuild thi' bridge withoat taking a vote of the r»u payers, which the County Council could no j do in this instance. Tho Board wm oi opinion that in tho event of the bride, being re-builb the work should be under, takeu by the Council. From the Bank _» New South Wales, Christchurch, a»kiJ particulars in connection with clearing thf river through tho Lincoln Domain. Jk a Clerk was instructed to reply and take «ten» to enforce the Board's claim, iv default of which the Board would take action in the matter with a view of having the mill d»m removed. From the Commissioner m Crown Lands, Christchurch, referrin. to the gorso on the road front, ing tho Government land at Spring, ston, pointing out that the gone -big spread before the present tenancy. U(_. Commissioners to be iuformed that the Board had written to the Government to clear the gorso prior to the present occupier taking possession, and that tho prenot occupier had received amplo time and notices to clear tho road, which had beet, ignored, and the Board decided to take leg»( proceedings to enforce tho order. An an. plication was received from J. Hunter. Taylor asking the Board to clear a drain on Hordorn'B road. Deferred for inspection, The 0 vet seer's report was considered aai it was resolved—That one contractor was to be informed that if ho did not proceed with the work at the contract would be re-let, and that the gorso on the road bordering vhs lake land at Greeupark should bo cleared, It was reported that a great number of eggs and heads of small birds were ooming to hand. The Board was of opiuion that it was tho most effective way of coping v the small bird nuisance, and decided to continue purchasing at present. Thounptid rate list was considered, and the Collector was iustructed to collect the 10 per cent, on all rates not paid in tho time prescribed by the Act. Accounts amountiug to £75 lis lOd were passod for payment.
