DARFIELD SPORTS.
Judges, Mr Cough and Dr. Injrlis; Starter, Mr D. Gillanders; Handicapped, Messrs WiJstead and A. Mcßeath; Timekeepers, Messrs Holmes and Olintou; Treasurer, Dr. Inglis; Secretary, Mr Cowan.
The annual sports were held in the Domain on New Year's Day. The day's sport resulted in a balance 'of about £20 after paying all expenses. Appended are the results:—44o yards hurdles handicap— M. McGovern, scr, 1 ; J. Laffey- 10yds, 2. Time, lmin B£sec. Five started. 100 yards flat amateur handicap—C. Minchin, 10yds, 1; D. Gillanders, scr, 2. Time, 10 4-sth sec. A protest was lodged against the winner as having broken his amateur status. Ten started. One mile walk handicap— D. Mcßeath, 70yds, 1; A. Fibbes, 50yds, 2. Five started. High jump amateur handicap—D. McLanchlin, 4ft 11m, 1; D. Gillanders, 4ft lOin, 2. Four started. One mile flat amateur handicap—D. B. Gillanders, 25yds, 1; J. Gillanders, 25yds, 2. Time, smin 30sec. Four started. One mile amateur bicycle handicap—W. Reatieaux, scr, 1; J. Gilbert, 25yds. 2. Time, 3min 14sec. Three started. 220 yards handicap —B. Smyth, 10yds, 1; F. Minchin. 12yds, 2. Nine started. Sack race—W. Harwood 1, F. Stewart 2. Four started. Long jump handicap—A. Stark (12in), 18ft 2iin, 1; T. Dunn (18in), 17ft s£in, 2. Seven competed. 440 yards amateur handicap— D. Gillanders, scr, 1; A. Patchett, 18yds, 2. Three competed. Time, SSsec. Fivemile amateur bicycle handicap—W. Bestieaux, scr, 1; J. Hay ward, 175 yds, 2. Four started. Ticket race—W. Graham 1, W. Gillanders 2. Twenty- four started. Tug of war, Married v single—Won by the single men. 220 yards boys' handicap, under sixteen—W. Gillanders, 6yds. 1; T. McClelland, scr, 2. Ten started. 100 yards girls' handicap, under sixteen—J. McClelland 1, L. Hutchison 2. Five started. 100 yards flat handicap—J. Laffey, 4yds. 1; D. Cameron, scr, 2. Time, llAsec.' Thirteen started. Quoits match—\V. Stott 1, D. Mcßeath 2. Four competed. Throwing the hammer—A. Mcßeath, 82ffc, 1; D. Cameron 2. Four competed. Half-mile fiat—T. Pearson 1, A. Fibbes 2. Four competed. During the day eight children's races were got off, for which a total of £5 was given in prizes. At the conclusion of the programme a trot for maiden horses was run. There were seven entries, aud the result was—G. Grey's b g Demon 1, S. Stewart's br g Barney 2.
