THE WEATHER.
Yesterday the weather was extremely hot, and in the afternoon the dust Hying in the streets made walking very unpleasant. At night, however, the temperature became much more agreeable. In the North Canterbury district yesterday morning there was a slight shower of rain about four o'clock. The Mayor of Kaiapoi received a telegram at 10 a.m. from the Postmaster at Bealey, "Raining and blowing. Heavy N.W. gale, and incessant rain since yesterday morning. Waimakariri and other rivers in high flood. No indication of weather clearing." At midday the discoloured Btate of the Waimakariri showed that there was a large volume of water added to the river. In the northern district for a time during the day a extremely warm nor'wester was blowing, and farmers are inclined to think that it will hasten the ripening of the grain. It may affect oats, but will not influence the crops of wheat.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 3. The weather, which has been very warm throughout the holidays, changed to-day, a strong nor'-wester blowing, with, rain threatening.
