The passengers were landed safely and the vessel floated oft* and reached Holyhead, but in a seriously injured condition. NEW YEAR HONOURS. Colonel Holborrow, Commander of the Third Infantry Regiment in Sydney, has been created a Companion of St. Michael and St. George. IMPERIAL CUSTOMS UNION. A total of one hundred and thirtyseven essays have been sent in for the prize offered by The Statist for the best scheme for Imperial Customs Union. MRS PARNELL. Mrs Parnell has been placed in a lunatic asylum. THE ALLEGED KIDNAPPING. Rome, January 2. The two Abyssinian princes, who were supposed to have been kidnapped, have returned to Rome in safety. The Abyssinian princes have started for Massowah, with Italians, who are believed to be on a secret mission. THE ZEITOUN AFFAIR. Constantinople, January 2. The Sultan has agreed to allow the foreign Consuls at Aleppo to mediate in the Zeitoun trouble. CANADIAN DEFENCES. Ottawa, January 2. At the opening of the Dominion Parliament, the Governor-General, in his speech, referred to the necessity for the better arming of tho militia and the strengthening of the defences.
