POINT PRIZES.

A sub-committee of the Wellington Agricultural and Pastoral Association, consisting of Messrs W. Bidwell. Riddiford, Stuckey, Beetham, Elgar, Matthews, Sladden, Crawford and Majendie have decided to sond the following circular to breeders of stock. The proposal, which is the work of the newlyappointed secretary, Mr G. H. Scales, is as follows :—" My committee have had under consideration for some little time a proposal to materially—it is hoped—increase the popularity amongst breeders and exhibitors of the prize schedule for the show to bo held in 1896. It has been felt by my committee that many exhibitors have given the Asso ciation for some years much substantial support, and owing to the, in many instances, g-eat distances they have had to travel, have incurred much expense. My committee have decided that, given a promise of reasonable support, they will add to next year's schedule seven prizes, each of £50, to be known as point prizes, and to be given to the winner respectively of the greatest number of points in each of the following seven sections: — Winner of most points in Shorthorn, £50 ; Hereford, £50; Ayrshire, £50; Jersey, £50; Lincoln, £50; Romney, £50 ; Southdown, £50. The ordinary entrance fee will be paid for each exhibit as laid down in the rules and ordinary schedule of the Association, and in addition a special entry fee of £5 will be paid to entitle any exhibitor to compete for any one of the point prizes. This special fee will be payable as follows :—£2 on nomination, say in March ; £2 in September, and £1 on general entry night. Competitors for the point prizes will not be required to make their entries in full until general entry nit.'lit (shortly before the show), merely intimating to the Association in March that they intend to compete for one or more of the point prizee. The value of points will be: —lst, 6 ; 2nd, 5 ; 3rd, 4 ; v.h.c, 3; h.c, 2 ; c, 1. The fact of competing for point prizes will not debar exhibitors from taking the ordinary class prizes.
