The Ashburton Racing Club's one day ■ummer meeting was held yesterday. The weather was delightfully fine, the sport wat of an interesting description, the attendance large, and the gathering a decided success. Mr H. Piper again wieldod the starter's flag with success, and Mr M. Stitt officiated as judge. Messrs Mason and Roberts were in charge of the totalisator, and the sum of £1406 was pasted through the machine. Miaa Madge and Alcestis jumped away to the front at the start and led to the turn, when Kowai took command of affairs and led into the straight. Bizarre then drew away, and, having Alcestis beaten at the rails, won comfortably by a length and a half, two lengths separating second and third. Time, lmin 16sec Dividend, £6 6e.

Frenchy led Maximus and Silver Spec along the back of the course and to the top turn. On entering the straight Maximus was in front and Clarence ran into second place. Clarenco was beaten at tho distance. Maximus winning comfortably by a length, the same distance separating Clarence from Magazine, Frenchy finishing fourth and Wedlock last. Time, 2min 14»ee.
