CALEDONIAN SPORTS.
At Timaru yesterday the second day's Caledonian sports was hold in fine weather and with a good attendance. Tho cycle races were most popular, and good times were made. The five miles, from scratch, was won by Simpson (Chriatchuroh) in 12min 41sec. Jones (Christchurch) won the special prizo for leading past' the post the oftenest. ' Other events were won by local m»D, and Jamieson (Ashburton) was best in feats of strength. MoKeohnie (Dunedic) was best in Highland music and dancing.
(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAMS.) AUCKLAND, January 2. Three thousand people attended the Caledonian sports in the domain. OAMARU, January 2. The games were continued to-day in good weather until towards the eveuing, when rain set in. The mile bioycle was won by Lethaby, and the two and threo miles by Body. The test bicycle race was divided between Barker and Staniford. The 75yds was won by Smillie. The 440yde Hurdles by W. May, who also won the Mile Flat. Uru won the wrestling, and C. D. Fleming the medal for most points in hammer, balls, caber, &c. The mile walk was appropriated by W. May. , . DUNEDIN, January 2. Rain which fell to-day marred the holiday to a Urge extent. The Caledonian sports were attended by about 3000. The racing was somewhat disappointing. In the Dunedin Handicap C. Christie, 24yds, won the 220 yards distance, and G. Harris, 17yds, the 440 yards in 51 3-sth sec. A. Crichton won the Mile Walk from soratch in 6min 19sec; E. Walter, 90yds, 2. G. Deegan cleared life in the Pole Jump. R. J. Scott proved too good for his opponent, winning the Cornish and Devonshire, Border, and Catch-as-Catch-Can. Three Mile Bicycle—H. P. Saunders, 120 yds, 1; J. H. Howell, 230 yds, 2. Time, 7min 41sec. Mile Roadster—E. Scott, 40yds, 1; Aitcheson, 40yds, 2. Time, 2min 28£seo.
