A sad drowning accident occurred in the Opaki, near Mastertoo, on New Year's J)*y. Two lads named Walter and Reuben Harris, aged nine and seven, sons of Mr Walter Harris, a well-known settler, went out rabbit-hunting after breakfast. As they did not return to tea search was made, and their clothes were foend on the bank of the Waitoua river. A hole in the river was dragged, and both bodies were recovered aboa& midnight. From marks on the bodies it is evident that one of the lads was in danger of drowning, and, the other little fellow going to his rescue, was pulled under and the two were drowned. DUNEDIN, January 2. D. Cooke, Secretary of the Carisbrook Cricket Club, fell off the express train from the North at Maheno, and sustained concussion of the brain. It is not believed he is in serious danger.
