AUCKLAND, Januarys Albert Edward Alley, who was in custody on a charge of breaking and entering and two charges of theft, escaped from Mount Eden gaol yesterday by scaling a wall. The same prisoner escaped about a fortnight ago from the police station by making a hazardous climb irotn the exercise yam over the roofs of several bouses, but subsequently surrendered himself. He is the first prisoner to escape from Mount Eden gaol. GIBBORNE, January 2. The Borough Council granted a slaughtering license to the new Freezing Works, which will commence operations ou Monday next.
