FIRES.

Shortly before nine o'clock last evening a small fire broke out in Mrs Nixon's boarding house, Colombo street. It appears that a rnau who occupied one of the rooms upstairs had been smoking, and his bed probably became ignited by a match, or the ashes from his pipe. Mies Nixon gave the alarm, and the fire engines turned osC promptly. The fire, however, gained no hold, and waa soon put out with some bucket* ot water.

An eleven-roomed house in Queen street, Cambridge, occupied by Mr Harry Hutchinsod, who represents the Direct Supply Company, was totally destroyed by tire at 3 v.m. yesterday. Nothing was saved. The house was owned by Mr James Webber. The insurances are—On the house £300 and on the Direct Supply Company's stock £390 in the South British ; Alt tiutchinson's furniture £150 aud stock £200 in the RoyaL MrHutchinson estimates that the insurances do not cover his loss by £600.
