POLO NOTES.
» "Weekly Press and Beferee. ,, By Pouawa. The Poverty Bay Polo Club played a club natch at their ground at the Willows on December 7th when sides were chosen by Messrs Hellier and Harley Evans. The play during the first spell was fast throughout and Lvarm , side scored 4 goals to nil. The teams were slightly re-arranged for the other spells, and the game was much more evenly contested. Both ponies and players showed considerable improvement on previous form. The Feilding Polo Club played a match, Married v. Single on December 14th when iwo spells were played. In the first, the Single scored 2 goals to nothing. The second term was rather in favour of the Benidicts, and each side secured a goal, the Single members thus winning by 3 goals to 1. The Wharerangi Polo Club (Napier) intend sending a team to play Poverty Bay at Qisborne next month. A match was played on December 14th between the Manawatu and Hawke's Bay clubs, the contest taking place on Mr A. W. Skerman's ground, Rangitikei line. The following were the teams :—Hawke's Bay— Messrs H. Russel, A. Russell, D. B. Hill, B. Chambers; Manawatu—Messrs A. S. Baker, W. Lloyd, A. Podevin, and A. W. Skerman. Mr Snow was umpire. Hawke's Bay scored a goal a few minutes after the start, and five minutes later the home team equalised matters. Hawke's Bay were aiterwards completely outclassed, and were eventually beaten by 10 goals to 2, Mr A. S. Baker bit 6 goals for the winners. The game was fast throughout, and the ponies were an exceptionally good lot.
