BOXING DAY, 1895.

♦ The weather yesterday for the holiday was excellent, even better than on Christinas Day, inasmuch as the sun was not uuurly so powerful. Numbers of people took advantage of the day to pay a visit to Stunner aud New Brighton, and the trams were filled to overflowing each trip. The Christchurch Tramway Company carried between 11,000 and 12.000 on their lines, of which 7000 were carried on the Snicner line. The New Brighton Trofeting Meeting attracted a goodly number of people, and a very good day'a spore was tilorded to the visitors. The Pioneer Bicycle Club Maeting at Lancaster Park was well attendee and some really good finishes were witnessed. Iv the evening the Greenwood Family commenced then- season at tti3 Theatre Koyal with "My Sweetheart," and the Stubbing Benefit Concert was held at the Opera House. The weather in Lyttelton was perfect for the holiday yesterday. A large number of pleasure seekers camti tq Fort by tae early muruiug trains, ami the steamers Jane Douglas, Akaroa, Johu Andereoa, Canterbury aud Waiwera were ail well patronised on their excursion trips to the Bays. The day was observed as a close holiday, the ouly work done being the shipment of a little cargo by the steamer Auglutu. At Raugiora the business places were all closed, aud the majority of people took some outdoor amusement. L*rt;e numbers of conveyances, laden with pleasure seekers, went to the beuch, some to the Grey bush, while others picnicked iv the Domain. The sports at Woodend attracted a good many people, ' and a few went to the bicycle sports at Lancaster Park. The annual picnic of the Sona and Daughters oi Temperance, Progress Division, was held this year at Mr Geo. Dawson's farm, Ohoka, whither a large cumber of persons were conveyed from Kaiapoi. The annual treac to the teaobers and scholars of St. Bartholomew's Church Sunday School, Kaiapoi, was held at Mies Bowie's farm at Rwenswood. The Kaiapoi and Rangiora members of the Salvation Army held a picnic in the Kaiupoi Domain. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEOBAMS.) WELLINGTON, December 26. The magnificent; weather which was again experienced for the holiday was taken full advantage of by excursionists and picnickers. Early in the morning the trains to Wairarapa and Manawatu were crowded with passengers, a large number of whom were bound for the Palmers ton and Masterton race meetings. The Mararoa left about eight o'clock on a trip across the Straits to Picton, taking 1520 passengers. Numerous harbour excursions were also run by smaller steamers during the day. The principal attractions in town were the cricket match .New South Wales v Wellington, on the Baain Reserve, and the opening games of the annual Liwn Tennis Championship Tournament on the Thorndon Tennis Club's courts. Both these fixtures were very largely attended. NELSON, December 26. There was glorious weather for the holiday, and a large number of visitors here. The regatta to-day wa3 a thorough success. Maiden Pairs—Wellington R.O. 1, Star (Wellington) 2, Nelson 3. Senior Fours, Outriggers—Wellington RC. 1, Star 2. Nelson, when holding a favourable position, broke an oar, and gave in. The other rowing events are taking place betweeu seven and eight o'clock. DUNEDIN, December 26. The weather, though warm, was heavily overcast, and some showers fell. The regatta at Port Chalmers was fairly attended and, though there was enough wind to allow the sailing races to be got off, it did not interfere with the rowing. In the champion yaohb race the Thelma, nob long down from Auokland, had a lead of nearly a mile, and was only a quarter iof a mile from the post when ah© waa t becalmed, and the Leader, favoured by the wind, won by 7mins, the Thelma juab beating the Trilby by half-a-minute. Senior Fouroared Outrigger Race, two miles—North End B.C. 1, Queen's Drive B.C. 2. Dunediu B.C. 3. Won by four lengths. Time, 15min 153ec. Scullers' Race, two miles—J. McGrath 1, C. Chapman (Waiwera) 2, P. Graham (Wellington) 3. Won easily by four lengths. Time, 16min 49sec. Iα the Junior i'ours, the Timaru crew started but were not placed. The threatening aspect of the weather interfered with the attendance at the Military Sports held in Tahuna. INVERCARGILL, December 26. Rain fell in torrents during the night, and showers continued up till 9 a.m., and as a consequence the events outside of the town suffered in attendance. The day was fine thougholoudy, and the Cycling Club'a sporte were well patronised. The Ten Mile Team race between Dunedin and the local Club was a miserable exhibition on the part of the latter'a representatives, with the exception of McKenzie. The points gained were aefollowe:—D.C.C., Crow 71, Macdonald 65, Sanders 53, Bell 35,, total 234; 1.0.C., McKenzie 60, . Muir 25, McPheraon 22, Cutuberteon 19,' total 125. Time, 27min 42350. Crow took most of the Miles, Riddill won the Maiden, and Bill the Three Mile Championship of Southland, by 4 yarda very cleverly. Manders was second in the two mites, won by Masters, Invercargill.
