LAWN TENNIS.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. (B? Telegraph.) (from our correspondent.) WELLINGTON, December 26. The teunis tournament commenced today. The weather was fine, bub strong gustsof wind frequently crossed the grounds, and made anything like a continuation of good play almost impossible in many cases ; However, good play was noticeable both with last year's champions and with new ■ players. The attendance was not large, owing to the numerous attractions elsewhere, and the tournament being held in such an out-of-the-way place strangers and visitors were unable to find it. Miss : Hitohens, Misa Hey wood, Miss Kennedy and Miss Nunneley made several good strokes during the day, which were loudly applauded iby the spectators. Parker, of Wellington, • runner-up for last year's championship, has ' improved wonderfully, and made some : splendid play, and I ehould not be surprised . to see him amongst the winners. i I _ . ■! 1 (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)
