KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting was held ou Tin-adity ey-ening. Present—All the Councillors except Crs. Rlakeley and Simpson, for. whom leave was granted. The Mayor (Mr Feldwiek) presided. Among the correspondence read was the following:—Prom the Oxford Road Board, complainiug of the deduction in anticipation of the. clerk's ana treasurer's salaries from license fees, alio that licenses issued outside K-uapoi were illegal. Referred to tho Finance Committee, From the Bank of New Zsaland, fixing the overdraft interest at 7 per cent. From the Ranger, complaining that the pouiidkeeper had placed fresh locks on the pound, and the keys supplied by the Council were useless. It was ordered that the looks must be replaced, or the Council would consider the quostiou of makiug other arrangements re pound. From the ratepayers .on the west aide of Peraki street, offering co contribate towardß an asphalt footpath. Jt was de-' oided that the work be done, the property owners to pay half the coat. From Mr T. Donovan, calling attention to required repair to the aaphalt footpath neak' the Kmkanui Hotel. It was stated that the damage was done by a fire soma time ago, and »t waa decided to call on the owner to repair the same. The amount of rates outstanding on which 10 per cent, would ba charged, was stated to be £119. The receipts were £41 13j 61. The overdraft wa» £731 8- 4i, Account! amounting to £57 5s -.vera passed. Cr. Bugg called attention to the neceuaity wr economy and the reduction of the overdraft* The Mayor reported that Mr S. R. Vfmo had been voted for as a member of the i_of, pital Board in order to obtain new blood on the Board, and also to secure better representation for the outside boroughs. A Committee, reported that a farther represent** tion, had baen made to the Ma_deville,Row.. Board for the cost of repairs on Beach roefl* - aud asking for a settlement. A Committee ot Crs. Drabble, Matthews, D mbleday, and Clark was set Up to consider the sobedule of duties for the ranger. It was decided thatf the drain iv Higa street be flushed by tho ateam fire engine. It was resolved that the water cart be under the charge of the Ch-tr* man of tbe Works Committee. After transacting some routiue buainei* tno Council adjourned.
