Norton stated that Meagher said Crick got a letter, purporting to come from the Crown Law Officer, containing an alleged promise from the" authorities either that there would be uo prosecution or else that no bill would be filed. Norton's cross-exami-nation was chiefly directed to show that unfriendly relations existed between him and Crick, but nothing fr#Sh was elicited.
