A HUNT AND A KILL.
The Southland Times publishes the following paragraph :— "A new enclosure having been prepared for the emu, kaogaroo3, Sec,, in the public gardens, their removal was set about on Saturday. The job proved to be more difficult and exciting than was anticipated. One of the kangaroos, on being pressed, leapt over the fence and made off with a constantly increasing crowd of hunters, old and young, after it. The poor thing probably afforded more amusement and instruction in that one. brief act than it will There are some people in Invercargill now who have seen a kangaroo jump, ana they have great respect for its powers. It tore around at a, great; rate, topped fences and hedges as if these had been garden edging, and crossed the creek several times ; indeed, it might have been at liberty yet bat for the deDth of the water, which prevented it giving that resounding whaok with its tail, which is the kangaroo's third motor, so a young man secured it as it tried to leap up the bauk. The creature was sitting in the long cockefoot grase yesterday with a scratched nose and a bored expression. The •• kill" was the emu's ;in trying to secure it somebody dislocated its neck, and its future location will probably be the Athenaeum."
