AKAROA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The statutory meeting of the Akaroe, County Council was held on Wedaesday for the annual eleotioa of Chairman. Present —-Messrs Anson, Parkinson, Piper, Sytaes, White, Fleming, Mason and Hay. Members having spoken of the efficient manner in which Mr Anaon had carried oat the duties of Chairman during the put twelve months, on the mptiou of Mr Whiti seconded by Mr Hay, Mr Ansou wu re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year. An ordinary meetiog of the Couucil wai then held. Present, the same members. Correspondence was received from the Rangitikei County Council on the subject of the proposed Local Government Bill. Ig wae left in the hands of the Chairman to arrange with the member for the diuricfc to hold some public meeting to discuss the Bill. It was resolved to again arrange with the police to act as dog- tax collectors for the ensuing year. Copies oi a resolution to the effect— "That this Council strongly protests against the new regulations with regard to the delivery of delayed telegrams as most injurious to the interests of the country settlers aud tending to make our newly established telephone service useless," were ordered to be sent to the member for the district and the Postmaster-General. The Engineer reported further on the Lake Forsyth drainage scheme. An area of about 200 acree would be permanently reclaimed if the drainage works were constructed. It was decided to take all necessary steps to raise £2000 under the Loans Ace for the carrying out of the Lake Forsyth permanent drainage scheme as aooa as the plaus aud estimates were approved by the Railway Departmeut aud others in. terested. Correspondence was received from Mr Joyce, solicitor, on behalf of T. Brooks, claiming compensation for improvements on Reserve 1259, Hilltop,: during Brooke* tenancy. The reserve was now vested ia the Council. It was resolved to send copies of the letter to the member for the district, to take what steps are necessary in the iate> rests of the Council. Notice to clear gorse was ordered to be aeut to the Akaroa and Waiuui Road Board and to Messrs Wm. Rhodes and Albert Jones on the Summit road Accounts amounting to £237 were pasted for payment. Mr John Hamilton was appointed representative for the Akaroa County and Borough on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards.
