THE LAND AND INCOME TAX BILL.

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright

Sydney, November 23. The Conference held another extended sitting last night, but did not finish, and has adjourned until Tuesday. Extraordinary precautions have been taken to keep the proceedings secret, as complaints are made that, though the Press is excluded, a good deal of what took place found its way into the columns of the newspapers. The Conference decided to exclude the Hansard reporters, and their notes of the previous day were destroyed. It was understood that good progress was made, and the conciliatory spirit is strengthening. It is believed that the Council managers have conceded the abstract principle with the exception of the land tax, but the difficulty is over the amount of exemption, which is still in abeyance. In bis opening speech at the Conference the Premier significantly referred to the fact that, if necessary, the number of members of the Council could be increased to 100 without in any way overstepping the safe and prudent limits of constitutional action. Both Houses held formal sittings and adjourned until Tuesday.
