WELLINGTON. November 22.
The Premier returned from Wanganui at midday to-day, hiring left the Hon. Mr Ortrroll aud Mr Sheridan, of the Native Department, to go further up tho rivor on Native matters. Tho site for a township nt Pipiriki was agreedjupon, and an amicable settlement arrived at respecting the obstruction to the river nivigation. Mr E. J. Reid, manager of the Colonial Bulk of New Zealand, has declined the posiuon of assistant manager of the Wellington branch, offered him by the Bank of New Zealand. Mr Reid proposes to retire after thirty years' banking experience, mauy of which were spent as manager of branches of the Oriental Bank in India and China. Eleven years ago Mr Reid joined the Colonial Bank ac manager of the Wellington branch, a, position he has held ever since. There is a movement on toot amongst the business men of the city to sigualieo his retirement b> the presentation of aa address.
