GREAT FIRE AT COOLGARDIE.
BAYLEY STREET DESTROYED. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, October 10 Mr W. Gray, Secretary to the Post office, received the following cablegram from Sir C. Todd, Postmaster General, South Australia :—" Mr Scholl, the Po*t-master-General, Western Australia, telegraphs mc as follows —' A terrible fire has occurred at Coolgardie, and Bayley street is destroyed. The Post and Telegraph office was fearfully knocked about, but was saved by the superhuman and noble efforts of the staif assisted by the public. The newspaper office adjoining is gone. We are working in an open hold close by. I am afraid the quadruplex machine is damaged. The officers are knooked up, aud business will be delayed. The fire originated by the upsetting of a lamp in Hines' buildings.' "
