SYDENHAM PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

Tho ordination of the Rev. W. S. Allan, and his induction into the pastorate of the Sydenham Presbyterian congregation, took place yesterday, the church on the occasion being "well filled. The Rev. J. Mackie, of Southbridge, preached, and the Rev. A. H. Tread well, Moderator of the charge, conducted the ordination and induction ceremonies. The Rev. P. R. Monro addressed the new minister, and the Rev. VV. Scorgie addressed the people. In the evening a soiree and concert was held in the Mission Hall, Colombo street, for the purpose of giviog the congregation an opportunity to welcome the R.v. Mr Allan. There was a very large attendance, and the tea tables were presided over by the following ladies : —Mesdames Tweedie, Fergusson, Gow, Craigr, Merritt, Forrester, Hadfieid, Miuighlin, Johnson, Watson, and Macdonald, and Misses Barr, Kiaaell, Neave, Lockhart, Currie, Gow (2), Forrester (3), Logan, Knight, Merrit (2j, and Halliday. The Rev. A. H. Tread well opened the meeting and then vacated the chair, which was taken by the Rev. W. S. Allan. Daring evening addre-ses were given by the Revs. A. H. Treadwell, J. A. Luxiord, J. Mackie, G. Webster, and the Chairman. The Band of Hope choir gave a glee, and solos were song by Mrs Reid, of Oamaru (who is an old Christchureh favourite) Misses Neave, Maggie Watson, A. Currie and Picken. and Messrs H. M. Johnson, R. Halley, and John McLean, and a pianoforte selection was given by Miss Kissell. Mr A. J. Sparkes act-.l 0.3 accompanist. Mr J. Forrester in a few well chosen words presented on behalf of the congregation, a very handsome marble clock, suitably inscribed, to the Key*. A. H. Treadwell in recognition of bis services as Moderator of the congregation. The Rev. Mr Treadwell returned thanks for the gift. The clock was procured from Messrs G. and C. H. Jones.
