THE PROPOSED BENEFIT.
TO THE EDITOR OF THB PRESS. Sir,—Mr Garrard'3 letter this morning I need uot discuss, leaving the public to judge of the necessity of giving Mr Wallace a benefit—or complimentary concert, as Mr Garrard chooses to dub it—or otherwise. My remarks don't seem likely to lead to the proceeds being handed to Miss Taylor, and in order to assist her case, which is an urgent one, I desire to anuounce that I intend giving a complimentary benefit concert to her next week. I have received most kindly offers of assistauce iv all quarters, and now publicly—as the several Societies are giving Mr Wallace a "complimentary " concert—ask them to assist mc on this occasion, aud also I ask Mr Wallace to contribute oue item during the evening. The Misses Taylor, in their gentle, quiet way, have helped in nearly ail the charity concerts of any note for over twenty years, and there i 3 no need for mc to expatiate upon the many good acts they have done. Your readers will only have to hark back a bit to recall the names of Miss Ada Sinclair Taylor and Miss Lavinia Taylor to confirm this. Now the opportunity is offered to the public of Christchurch in some way to acknowledge these efforts in the past, any offers of assistance will be gladly receiveby—Yours, &c, F. R. Woodhousb.
