INQUEST ON THE VICTIMS

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Melbourne, August ID. The inquest on the victims of the Eldorado mining disaster has been opened. The only information of iniporcance elicited so far is that three days prior to ihe accident there was a slight inrush of slum. Thompson, one of the victim.?, was- instructed to erect a barricade. According to the riirecrions he received the ceinra prop shouH have been sunk in the ground eighteen inches, but; he only sank it three or four inches, although he told the captain of the shift that he had sunk it eighteen inches. Morrison, Thompson's assistant, subsequently asked Thompson why he had misled the captain, but the latter retorted, " Mind your own business," adding that there was no danger to be feared. Morrison being an inexperienced man accepted Thompson's statement, and was afraid to inforcn the captain of the shift because it would make trouble. Morrison saw the prop swaying at three o'clock on the morning of the accident and told Thompson.
