August 5. Mr J. L. Doogan, 'secretary to the Greymoutb Jockey Club, was Iα Wellington last week. He was driven out to the Hutt Park racecourse by Mr H. M. Lyon, secretary to the W.R.C. The Wairarapa Hunt Club Steeplechase Meeting resulted in a profit of £6. At a meeting of stewards it was decid-.-d to uphold the protest entered against Bird receiving second money in the Maiden Hack Race. Plaintiff's evidence in the case of W. H. Frewin v. G. Peebles and W. Nicholson, secretary of the .Woodville J.C. (claim .£IOO damages), for alleged assault, was taken here before Mr J. C. Martin, S.M., on Friday last. The evidence will be forwarded to Woodville, where the case will be decided. F. W. Demuth, whose name has appeared in the Official Calendar for nearly r year, is at present in Australia and unlikely to return. Among the youngsters engaged in the Maribyrnonc Plate, to be run at Fleming ton next November, are Mount Royal's half sister by Mentor—Glencoe, whose dam (Taihoa) and yearling sister are owned by Mr W. Riithbone, of Waipawa. Taihoa is , full sister to Haore, owned by Mr R.y Stevens in the Man&watu district. Another juvenile enptagedisSolicitude, full brother to the Hon. J. D. Ormond's smart filly S ilitaire; also Blazon, fall brother to Wild Peer. The Lower Valley Jockey Club have decided to hold their annual meeting on Boxing Day. Should the Masterton-Opaki Jockey Club decide not to racs on Boxing Day the stakes will be increased. It is to be hoped some satisfactory arrangement will be arrived at between the clubs, whereby tlu latter can manage to bring off its Summer Meeting between Boxing Day and New Year's Day (Wairarapa Racing Club meeting). I would suggest Saturday, December 28ih, aa suitable. It has been decided not to send The Dromedary to Christchurch. The reason given is that the mare caught a cold, and also, it is thought, ricked her loins. The stallion Voli igeur died in the Lower Valley on Friday last. He was sire of Cupid, The Dromedary, The Toad, Volta, Mahara, Canard, and others. By King Cole—Fenella (sister of Maribyrnong) he was a half-brother to The Mute, and was owned by Messrs Humaßcos., of Tananui Mar tin borough. The remains of the late Nat Nathan arrived from Melbourne on Thursday last and were entered at the Karori Cemetery the same afternoon. A large number of relatives and friends followed, including Messrs M. and P. Nathan, brothers of the deceased, A. L. Levy, G, W. and J. Siddels, Avery, Booth, Sullivan, O'Keefe, F. Cohen, P. Poole, A«her, Jenkins, M. Solomon, H. Levy, L. Cohen, C. and R. Patterson, W. and R. Ryan. The Rev. H. Van Staveren conducted the funeral service at the grave. lam informed that Mr W. E. Bidwell has sold Crescent (by Forester—Nancy L-e) to aHutfc resident for £75, and that the colt will be trained by J. James. Larg9 fields compete annually in the Saddle Race at the Lower Valley Meeting;. The condition attached to the race has been altered so that no horse could start for the races that had won other than Saddle Races or wa3 engaged, for other races at the present meeting.
