MONDAY'S PRODUCE REPORT.

(BY OUB CuMMEBCIAI. KDITOE.)

Holders of wheat are awaiting with con siderable interest the next advices from Europe relative to the position of the market there. The cable quotations published elsewhere imply that the market is decidedly steadier, and there seems a reasonable possibility of a steady upward move from this time forward, in which case we shall no doubt feel tbe benefit to some extent here. At present our market keeps very dull and lifeless. Sales were made in town on Saturday of Tuscan at 3s 4d and second quality at 3s 3d. Hunter's brought 3s 3d aud a prime lot of purple straw Tuscan realised 3s 5d at a station very close to town. Oats—A fine, heavy parcel of milling Canadians was bought at Is 7d, and a line of Duns changed bands at Is 6d. For a sample of Long Tartars Is 7£d was offered, but sellers stuck out for Is 8d and business did not follow. Beans—For a straight line of about 500 sacks 2s -Id was offered, but they were withdrawn for more money. Ordinary samples elicit bids of 2a 3d. ' Peas—Prices are slightly firmer, owing to scarcity, and prime parcels would probably command np to 2s 6d. Potatoes—We did not hear of much doing. A line of Derweuta was sold at 20s at a station with a railage to port of 8s 21 per ton, and the equivalent at nearer stations, i.e., 22s 6d, is about the nominal value. Chaff.—Several lines were sold in town on Saturday, prime bright realising 55s and 56', and the tendency of the market is rather towards easier prices. Onions were offering at £3, but buyers were not operating freely. Cocksfoot —A parcel of prime, bright seed (farmers' line) realised 4d, and a light, foggy parcel 3£d. Fair seed is saleable at 3_d to 3|d. [These quotations, unless otherwise specified, are the net cash prices paid to the producer free of brokerage or commission, and for delivery at country stations tcithin a twenty-five mile radius of town. For delivery on board ship at Lyttelton add 2d to per bushel].
