A GLADSTONIAN RELIC FOR 7s 6D.
A chip of the first tree felled by Mr Gladstone at Ha warden, after the announcementin 1879 that he intended to forsake Greenwich and seek the representation of Mick lothian, has just been sold by auotion.jsj Clerkenwell under a distress for rent. This, article was undoubtedly highly prized by it*.possessor, for he had taken the trouble to, fix upon it a silver plate containing a description of its history and origin, engraved in ,a£ highly ornamental manner. The hammer, fefl when the bidding for the chip, silver, plate included, reaohed 7s 6d. It yn» stated that the article vas purchased by tbe broker whose duty it was to seize the goods, for presentation to the Radical Club,, of which he is a member. ' '-.
