TRIAL MATCH
The first trial match of the season took place on Saturday afternoon oh the North Park. Though the weather was showery and inclined to be cold there was a good crowd of spectators to witness the,preparation of bhe province's representatives. The Selection Committee was present and were doubtless satisfied with the arrangement of the practice teams, as a fairly good contest resulted.- Tue forwards occasionally pub in some serviceable dribbling rushes, and also occasionally the backs gave creditable exhibitions of passing. Taken altogether bhe practice was a satisfactory one. The A beam eventually won' by a margin of 8 points. In the firsb spell O'Brien scored from a passing run, and Ward converted, and White very neatly dropped a goal from a penalty, whicn made the B team 8 points. After a good rush by the A's Jdhnstone was on the point of scoring, bub was collared before he gob over. He managed to pass the ball to Kerr, who touched down.-» Wilson's attempt ab goal was unsuccessful. Cowlishaw was the next to score from a welldirected pass after a good run, and Appleby placed a pretty goal. The B team's full back having had to retire on account of a bad knee, Wilson book his place in the second spell. Before the first spell terminated the AY improved bheir score. Reese made a fine run, and passed to Wilson, who was smartly overtaken by O'Brien. Reese had followed up closely. He regained the ball and scored, Appleby missing the goal. In the second spell some rearrangement of the teams having taken place the game was more evenly contested, and the only score was a try by Hobbs (A team) from a pass from a scrum on bhe B's lines, Kerr converting.
