THE CHAMPIONSHIP OF AUSTRALASIA.
Owing to pressure on oar space recently the report of the match between Messrs Esliog and Wallace for the Championship of Australasiaiias been unavoidably held over. We now give a brief resume of the match to date. The conditions of the match were: The winner of the first seven games (draws not counting until after three drawn), to be the winner of the championship and stakes of £50. Th* contest was commenced in the Athenaaam Hall, Melbourne, on June 9th. In the first game Mr Eiling, the Victorian, won the to*a for move, and a French game resulted in a draw. The second game was a Queen's Gambit, which Mr Eeling declined, but was forced to resign on his 27th move. The third game was another French defence, which Mr Wallace won. The same player scored the next game with the Zukercort opening, bat the fifth game was drawn. Iα the sixth game Mr Baling scored his first win after declining a Queen's Gambit. About this time Mr Wallace suffered from insomnia, and play was postponed for a day or two. The Victorian scored the neic game with a Buy Lopes opening, making the score Wallace 3, Ealing 2. The eighth game was a Queen's Gambit, and Mr Wallace won. The ninth game was drawn. In the tenth game Mr Wallace played the Ponziani opening and scored his fifth win. Xslingwon the next, a- French Defence. Mr Wallace again played the Pooziani opening in the twelfth game and scored another win. The score then stood— Wallace 6, Ealing 3. v [Later news advisee as that Mr Wallace won the Championship.} The following is the score of the seventh game, which we take from the Sydney Evening News :—
