AN APPEAL.

•CO TUB EDITOE OF THE PRESS. Sir,—ln noticing your appeals at different jiimee in connection with "Unemployed wjand," " Avon Refuge," and " Herrick's Pome," it has always struck mc that a fcaore direct appeal might bo made to the taany young men amongsb us, bachelor?, yrho in most cases could better afford to help the suffering humanity in our midst. Wili you, Sir, use your eloquence in addition to these few lines to induce them to subscribe something to one or other of these deserving objects, particularly the two latter; it maybe forego a visit to the theatre or debar themselves of an occasional drink, or the pleasure of a g&me of billiards, or even of their own poverty subscribe a mite for the sake of charity. If they would only call on either Mr Herrick or Mr Birch and hear what they can say about the great need of help, particularly during fchis severe winter weather, I am sure knany of them would willingly assist, or where they have not the opportunity ol calling or do not care to make themselves known, a postal note for any amount, or even a shilling's worth of postage stamps, might be posted to either gentleman. Even small subscriptions, I am sure, would be thankfully received and faithfully applied. Tours, &c, W.B. .July 18th, 1895.
