Messrs Candy and Priestly, Excelsior Rifle Sataou, write :—" Wβ desire to thank those who responded to the appeal on behalf of the Winter Work Fund, for which we have handed over to the Mayor the whole of the proceeds, amounting to £1 2s 6d. We also thank Messrs Recce and San and Ashby, Bergh aud Co. for contributing ammunition for ths same." " Ted " writes to us as follows :—" Enclosed please liud postal note for 4s (four shillings) towards the Winter Work Fund. lam sorry I canuot send more, but if people who can only send small sums would do so I don't doubt it would soon mount up to a large sum, particularly as I believe everyone gives really double on account of the subsidy. That is not very clear, but no doubt you will understand what I mean."
