DUNEDIN.
DuNßpra, July 9. Yesterday (Monday) the annual match between Canterbury and Or ago University took place at Tahuna Park and resulted in a wiu for the home team by 15 points to nothing. The ground was, a sheet of water with here and there a piece of dry land showing above it. Attempts had been made in the morning to drain it but when play was started there was no perceptible difference. Gran, tho 'Varsity skipper, kicked off and the home- team immediately attacked the visitors'.goal, but they soon carried it back and forced this 'Varsity. After the kick out scrambling play ensued in the College balf, bat with -nothing except occasional baths, to liven things up for the spectators. Give and take play with no advantage to either, side ensued till half time. The second half opened disastrously for the visitors. Ulrica returned the kick which was muffed by the College backs and Stevens following up well scored, as did Thomson a few minutes later from a good passing rush, but neither try wis converted. From a good dribbling rush Miller scored, and a little later Macdonald had a dear run in and ecored behind the potts, both kicks being fruitless. After more aquatic play O'Neill ecored and time was called leaving the southern players victors by 5 tries to nil. Under the circumstances good play was eat of the question, and passing an impossibility. The game accordingly fell on the forwards, and it was the Otago forward* who won the match. ~ [The above letters came to hand too late for last issue.—Ed.]
