ATTEMPT TO ASSASSINATE THE PREMIER. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Sofia, July 15. The Bulgarians, ignoring the Berlin Treaty, have taken possession of the Rhodope district. It is reported, owing to warnings received from the Powers, Bulgaria is checking the Macedonian agitation and dispersing the frontier bands. July 16. A dastardly attempt was mado on the life of the Premier, M. Stambouloff to-day. While he was returning to his house in the city four men stopped his carriage and attempted to assassinate him, both of whose hands were severed in defending himself. He tried to effect his escape by fleeing, but was shot down and re* repeatedly stabbed while lying on the ground. His condition is critical. One arrest has been made.
