Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. THE CANADIAN TRADE. Sydney, July 12. The Telegraph, commenting on Mr Ward's statement at Auckland that there was a reasonable prospect of as great a trade with Canada as with Australia, remarks that the fact is that Canada takes very little from the Colonies, even with the Canadian service now running. There is as much chance of New Zealand carrying on an interchange on an equivalent to that with Canada as there is with Chili or Peru. THE FEDERAL BANK. Melbourne, July 12. The liquidator of the Federal Bank has made an affidavit showing the debts still due to be £1,254,000, exclusive of the winding-up charges. The assets, apart from money due by contributories, will not exceed £711,000. He does not expect to realise above £50,000 from the call now sanctioned. THE FRAUDULENT TRADERS. Owing to physical prostration, the Abrahams, convicted of fraudulent trading, are still unable to come up for sentence. Two of them have persistently refused food and stimulants, and are suffering from partial paralysis of the brain. STATE ADVANCES BILL. Adelaide, July 12. The Government has introduced a State Advances Bill, which is practically the same as last year's measure. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PETROLEUM. The Government Geologist reports unfavourably on the petroleum discovery. LADY CANDIDATES. The Engineers' Association has nominated Misses ' HawHns and Prohan, nurses recently dismissed from the Adelaide Hospital, as candidates at the coming elections. SMALLPOX. The Lusitania has arrived and has been placed in quarantine. Another case of smallpox has developed since the steamer left Albany. RICH GOLD REEF. « Perth, July 12. Rich stone has been struck by tha Nannine Company at Coolgardie, "with every appearance of permanency. An extraordinary yield is expected when the present crushing is cleaned up.
