All those who applied for work at the City Council Chambers yesterday morning were put on to clear away the snow on tho footpaths. Ninety-one men were tbus temporarily supplied with work.

The promoters of the Sumner concert hauded over to the Charitable Aid Board the sum of £12, being the nee proceeds of the concert, to be subsidised by the Government and spent at Sumner. They desire to tender their cordial acknowledgments to the following public bodies and individuals : —To the Puess and Times Companies for advertising in daily papers, to Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs and EL J. Weeks for printing, and to the Sumner Athletic Club for free use of hall. Special thanks are due to the performers and ladies who had undertaken the tableaux, which contributed so largely to the success of tbe concorc. Mr Crooks was good enough to render great assistance with limelight effects. To the Mayor of Sumner tbe promoters desire to tender their hearty thanks for the subscription of £1 Is, also to the Christchurch Tramway Company for £3, and to Mr Drew, confectioner, Sumner, for £1 ss. At Dunedin there are now about 350 men in fifteen gangs employed iv various works about the Town belt and suburbs, and they generally appear to be doing good useful work, of permanent value to the city. The men are paid at 230 p.m. on Saturdays, half-an-hour sufficing for the whole operation,
