WOMEN ON SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The Under-Secrotary for Education has replied to the request of the Women's Democratic Union that both parents of school children should be allowed to vote in School Committee elections, and to be elected to Committees. He says :—" The Act already provides that if a school child's father is dead or absent from the colony the child's guardian, without distinction of sex, may vote atfSchool Committee elections, and is eligible to become a member of Committee. The Minister desires mc to say that he does not think it likely that any amendment of the Act to make both parents electors and eligible will b? carried during the coming session, as Parliament is not as a rule disposed to tolerate more than a certain atnouut of legislation relating to education, and several other imporcant education questions will have to be dealt with this year."
