HUNTING.

The best and most enjoyable day of the season was the pronouncement on the meet of the Christchurch hounds on the Queen's Birthday. The tryst was at West Melton, and at the throw off, at 11.30, there must have been, including followers and those in vehicles, some hundred persons present. A strong bare was very soon afoot, and leading the field over a not too difficult line of country, was run into after a thirty-seven minutes' burst, and pulled down in the open. A second hare was soon started, and this the hounds soon ran down but tbe third put up gave followers a rare gallop of about four miles, and the scent being strong, ib was a really fast go. After adjournment for refreshment a fourth hare was immediately started, and this, after a fchort burst, was broken up. Both horses and hounds had by this time had enough, and a start was mode homewards. The country bunted over was on the properties of Messrs Adams and P. Manion. Amongst the followers were Mrs Alan Scott on Pitchford, Mrs J. Hall on Greyling, Miss Gerard on Netherby, Miss Haydon on Electric, Miss Helmore on Justice, the Misses Bassett, Hon. E. W. Parker on Cable, Messrs Heaton Rhodes oo Torch, Cowlishaw (2), Ne_ve (3), Haydon (2), Hall, Bassett, Beckett, Alan Scott, Cotterill and Haines. The huntsman (Mr D. Kimbell) was mounted on Blackbird and tbe whip (McMillan) on Ronald.

The Christchurch Hounds will meet tomorrow ab Mr Furze's, Gift Farm, Dnnsandel, instead of at Mr Buckley's, as formerly announced.
