The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's cargo steamer Matatua, Captain Holmes, returned from Tima.ru yesterday morning, and was busy throughout the day coaling and taking iv frozeu mutton. Bhe sails this afternoon for London direct with a full cargo of general produce. Tne New Zealand Shipping Company have received advice that the H.M.s.s. Hitnutaka, which left Wellington on January 24th for London, had a tine weather passage to Londoa. She proceeded Home via the Straits of Magellan, which she entered at 5 p.m. on February 7th, and cleared next day at 4.30' p. in. without anchoring. Monte Vidio was reached on February 14th, and the steamer sailed again the following day, calling at Rio de Janeiro and Teneriffe. No ice was sighted during the trip.
The barque Hudson, Captain Gasson, from Dunedin, was signalled early yesterday afternoon, but it was after dark before she reached the stream. She dropped anchor for the night, aud will be berthed this morning. She comes under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company to load for London, and is expected to have quick dispatch. Captain Gasson will be well remembered as a previous visitor to Lyttelton. The barque Ganymede is expected to clear at tbe Customs to-day for Newcastle ia ballast. The s.s. Rotokino sailed for Auckland last night with a full load of general produco. It is stated that the ship Opawa, now loading frozen mutton at Timaru, will go direct to Manchester.
