FOOTBALL.
Tile football, season for the year 1895 open! in earnest . this afternoon, for wuicftday no less than seventeen matches are set down — four Seniors, five Junior Fhig, and eight President's Cup. As showing ihe interest evinced in the game, it may be pointed out that the President's Cup competition has become too large to be completed in oue season under the old order, and thi3 year the teams have been divided into two classes, tbe -three snecessful tearn3 of each class to play off for the Cup. The Senior ranks have beeu strengthened by the inclusion of the North Canterbury Club, the successor of a Club.which provided Canterbury a few years back with many of her sterling footballers.
The Kaikoura Club have made a better start this season than heretofore. Last weeii they scored a 17 to 3 win over a country team, F. K. Rentier (Secretary) obtaining fi%'e tries (one of which he converted) for his -ide, which included Bob Driscoll, the ex-Kaupoi forward. Two days later the Club men met a Green Hills station, which iuciuded Angus Stuart, and were victorious by 15 to 3 (really 18 to 3), Bee getting three tries aud. Renner two (another obtained by him was mistakenly disallowed), but the ball being very slippery the efforts at conversion were unsuccessful. V\. Morris kicked a penalty goal for the Station team.
