Pre*. Association—By Telegraph- Copyright.
Hobakt, February 15. . The Union Company's steamer Pukaki, while entering the Mersey River to-day and berthing alongside the Devonport Wharf, struck a submerged rock and knocked a large hole in the starboard bottom. The vessel was making water fast and had to be immediately beached to prevent her sinking in deep water.
Later. ThePukaki has a hole 4ft long in her bottom. She is beached in a good position. She had very little cargo aboard, but nothing is yet known as to what extent it is damaged. The Union Company has made arrangements for another steamer to take up the running in place of the Pukaki.
